2010s – now
As a result of meetings between members of the community and the NYDOT, Restore Our Community Coalition (ROCC) is formed.
2010
The NYSDOT announces $1 billion to support a project on the Kensington Expressway, named at this time as a tunnel, based on an inappropriately limited Environmental Assessment (EA).
2022
As a result of grassroots conversations regarding concerns on the proposed tunnel project, East Side Parkways Coalition is formed to advocate for full restoration of the Humboldt Parkway
2023
Five lawsuits against the proposed tunnel project are filed from ESP, New York Civil Liberties Union, WNY Youth Climate Council, Coalition for Economic Justice, and Citizens for Regional Transit. The estimated cost of the tunnel balloons to $1.5 billion plus more than $5 million for maintenance annually that will be the city’s responsibility.
2024
A full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is ordered by Judge Colaiacovo as a part of the ongoing lawsuits. ESP with input from the community & partners are developing seven EIS demands that will help prioritize community health.
